Men display, court and seduce - women choose

Came across this phrase in a DVD set I'm listening to (Advanced dating techniques - David DeAngelo) I'm curious - Do you believe this is true? Do you believe is was true but times have changed?

All part of research for a seminar (well that's my story)

Update - PS since writing this I came across what I think maybe is a more appropriate phrase from Neil Strauss:

"The man never chooses the woman. All he can do is give her an opportunity to choose him."
